Top10 Maps Prettyness

Its Results time!

We had close to 50 votes this week, which is an impressive effort. Thanks to everyone who contributed, there were some interesting discussions in the thread. The version changes throughout 1.x-3.x were brought up quite often, and probably affected quite a few choices. Unfortunately we couldn’t focus on specific versions in this weeks Top10, perhaps in the future!

Remember to jump onto the forums to discuss the results, and hop on IRC to get all the latest news!

Rounding out the Bottom 5 of this list we have the following maps. All worth a worthy mention, but to avoid too much of a tl;dr and xbox huge text, We give you the AusNS Bottom-of-the-Top

9: ns_nothing
8: ns_nancy
7: ns_hera

Origin – For serving up some of the best competitive games I ever saw in v2.   It may have had a slight marine bias, with such large open corridors proving difficult for lower end Alien creatures, but a vast vent system allowed good movement to combat such players.

Look at this map! Its at 5 holy shit, that is a good position to be in damn if its not close to being #4. It was the map that had that buggy infestation floor in biodome with the lift right next to it. Thats pretty great. Good job origin!

Old Bast gets my #1 vote. I used to love all the stupid stuff you could do on that as marines. Seige a hive from spawn? No problem. Kill team mates in the revolving door? You got it. Annoy everyone as commander by constantly playing with lifts? Relocating into the vents in RR using jetpacks. Honourable mention to building dcs in the underwater tunnel and sitting in there for ages after losing 3 hives.

It was consistently mentioned that 1.0x Bast was loved for being so batshit insane in pubs. It was mentioned by almost all the community members who voted for it as being a fun map, but ended up at being. A solid position, but seems to have fallen behind the more competitive maps. Defiantly the community favourite for Public games without an echo of a doubt!

Bast wins our This map is so much fun‘ award!

3: ns_tanith

The Flying Fish
Tanith was definitely the best map. It was fantastic to look at and play, both competitive and pub.  Also it offered a shitload of strategic options unlike most of the other maps.  It was one of the few maps where you didn’t feel like you’d ever played a game quite like this on it no matter how often you played.

The most important thing you can take from this is that TFF is a horrible man to approach if you need a tip on the Melbourne Cup.

2: ns_eclipse

Trayder
But I could possibly rule it down to eclipse or tanith. Both stuck with ns all the way through and were great maps for pubs and wars alike. And looked good with varying environments  I’d say eclipse was probly better for wars.

Trayder about summed it up here. Eclipse barely scrapes into #2 because of its focus on competitive play over Tanith, I also suspect there were a few bonus votes here for the huge amount of griefing possible with the 1.04 doors.

1: ns_veil

The most balanced map with the simplest and yet best layout out of any map. Good for any strategy you want to use as marines. Friendly for every alien class.

MrC
Veil is clearly going to win from a competitive standpoint.

I dont think there was ever any doubt about this one. Not always the prettiest map to look at, but nice enough not to gag at. What it lacked in looks it made up in for balance and competitive perfectness in spades. Consistently chosen as a key map in almost every tournament, Veil was all but ubiquitous in the community’s polls. When it wasnt within the top 3 of a list, it always seemed to show up with an honourable mention.

Veil is our AusNS Greatest NS1 Official map!
