This week we went back to the polls on great NSPlayers, this time splitting between the two most important roles in NS, the commander and the fade. We had a lot of great suggestions, with over 20 nominations for the best fade alone, it was sure be a close race for the top spots. So lets check out the results!
First lets check out some great comments from you, the community:
Minirum – Commander of Boost, king of sieging enemy fades and recycling observatories when his arms lab was being attacked. – Solus
Haha, thanks Solus.
Yes, comms should take advantage of certain situations, but the good ones were the ones who are regularly trying to get those moments of opportunity to appear. One residing memory is of watching hltv games in the early rounds of tournaments, watching the game unravel, with me thinking “the marine team are a good 2-3 minutes blah blah blah blah. – Moose
Thanks Moose, but next time no essays please.
Mr C was the best everything!! – Dzr
Finally! The recognition I deserve. Thanks Dzr.
Now some honourable mentions
THAU – With the rapid restructuring of the fade in 2.0, it’s role in the NS metagame was completely revamped. There were few who could quickly master the new. “Thau gets my vote for best 2.x fade. the original ‘fairy fade’” - Pieman
PS_Mouse - “I have only one vote for this, and it is to PS_Mouse, a commander whose voice could make a grown man swoon.” - Taz, Commanding the second oldest clan in Australia, Mouse’s sex voice was envied by clans throughout NS’ life.
Now without further delay or ado, your top Ten (5) Commanders are:
5. Minirum 29 points – The commander for the much celebrated clan Boost, Minirum has solidified his position in the lexicon of great commanders by leading one of the great rise to fame stories in AusNS. Starting from meagre beginnings Boost has become synonymous with some of the most well known and respected clans in Australia, and MiniRum’s leadership from the Command Console is no exception.
5. MCGOO 29 points – “he invented the medspam” – Tsunamii, MCGOO, the man of many faces and commander for the awkwardly named XXX, standing relatively far away from the limelight in comparison to his commander peers, MCGOO still manages to make it into this hall of fame.
3. Superbeast 46 points – Another Boost alumni, when the subject of great NS commanders comes up, you can always expect Superbeast’s name to be mentioned. Superbeast’s skill in the command chair has earned him respect from teammate and opponent alike, and that alone is enough to earn a place on this list.
2. Az0r 53 points – Taking command of arguably greatest Australian NS clan ever to grace the scene doesn’t come easy. Az0r managed to take the aspects of a good commander and excel at them all. “He was a superb commander in s5 and always kept his cool. His knowledge of the game and his speed were his greatest traits.” – Haymo. There wasn’t a situation az0r did not seem to account for or not expect, truly one of the greats.
1. Elb 70 points – Blasting through to the top spot with 70 total points, Elb is the commander’s commander. With a style that defied convention, it was Elb’s true volatility as a tactician that made him such an asset. Competing against Elb kept every kharaa player on their toes. You could never truly tell if you were fending off a minor assault, or an all in attack. Elb manages to more than simply inch out his rivals, he stands head and shoulders above commanders from some of the most skilled NS clans in it’s history.
And now your Top Ten (5) Fades are:
5. (SUPR_)(A)(@)egi(s)(x) (Moaner) (^_____^) 33 points – There were many names thrown about when discussing the best ever fades in Natural Selection. But 5 stood out far ahead of the rest. Rounding out these 5 is Aegix. Spearheading the Alien game of the stf 2.0X powerhouse, Aegix’s skills were envied by his rivals and savored by his allies. Setting the bar high for many fade players to come, Aegix is the godfather on modern NS.
5. Reptile 33 points - When Australia stepped into the international arena, there was a very short list of players deemed good enough to represent us, at the top of that list lies Reptile. Speed, composure, finesse, Reptile had all the skills needed to carry any alien team to victory.
3. Nesk 43 points – “Somehow this guy’s blink was bound to my reload key. Really frustrating waiting there 10 seconds for a fade you know is going to come only to have him appear the split second you press ‘R’.” – Solus. Anyone who is recognised by Solus as being one of the greats is a sure bet. Nesk had the quick thinking that would always give him the initiative in an engagement, there wasn’t a situation he would not have a way to get out of or, get into a position that would leave him too exposed.
2. Diesel 76 points – Deezl’s abilities were the envy of every single fade in AusNS, the proverbial ballet of swipey death displayed by Diesel was always a pleasure to watch and a nuisance to play against. His movement around the map and in and out of combat could only be described as flawless.
1. Solus 90 points – Rounding out another top ten at number 1, Solus is the godchild of AusNS. Seen by his peers as one of the most rounded players in the game, his fading was second to none. A titular member of one of the best clans in AU? Check. Represented the nation? Check. Adrenaline? Check. With 16 votes in total and a staggering 11 top nods, Solus is on everyone’s list when it comes to great fades.
