We had some great entries this week for our Most Memorable Moment Top Ten, with plenty of moments we all shared as a community, and a few personal moments isolated to individual people or clans. The AusNS nostalgia is still running high with people flocking back to the community that we once thought were lost forever. But now it’s time to feature some of the great entries submitted by you, the community.
First up, a few honourable mentions:
Would have to be iNi’s first tournament game win, was almost a year after the clan started. We got into the AusNS elimination tournament only because some other team disbanded days before it started. We were pitted against Natural and were massive underdogs. It came down to a 3rd round and we were marines on tanith (i was commanding), and i think a Natural player lagged out or similar reducing them to 5. About halfway in we lost spawn at the same time we took down their 2nd hive at fusion and had to relocate there. We came close to loosing a number of times but eventually managed to get a HA train out and in a last ditch effort were able to take out their hive at satellite; winning the game. Natural disbanded afterwards. From there we got a forfeit win off WHC, and then narrowly lost 1-2 to R18. – N3
Nothing beats a tough back and forth tournament matchup, these are the matches you remember forever. Thanks N3.
most memorable moment when NS was ALIVE
and servers were packed out 24/7 and we would play till 6-7am every day and sleep for 3-4 hrs n go at it again. yes we had no lives but hell it was fun! and i lost 2 gf’s at the time thanks to NS, and i dont regret a thing hahahaha – DGF
Too right DGF, lets hope we can get as many people back into the community over the next few months and then have an injection of new blood when NS2 rolls around!
Basically, it was a really long game on Veil, going back and forward over and over, hives coming and going like old men to a whorehouse. Finally, it came down to this…. The final hive was Pipe and and us marines were on our way to take it down. At the same time, the aliens had coordinated a rush against marine start with about 5 Onos’. Spawn was absolutely decimated and so was the hive. The commander was down and we hadn’t had enough res to relocate to pipe. The remaining 7 or so marines sat and waited in the corner of Pipe with their HMGs, their only hope to take down the remaining aliens. We waited a few minutes.
Finally, all the onos’ came rushing down the stair side of Pipe. HMGs were blazing as the Onos’ quickly closed the ground. It was a blood bath. Finally, all gunfire ceased to reveal one lone light armor marine with 10hp. Marines Win. – chiss
Another great recount of a tight match, thanks chiss.
Once again we had a lot of great entries, but now we have your AusNS Most Memorable Moments Top Ten:
10. AusNS ‘minigames’
Standing on the top “control” platform as MCGOO screamed down the microphone and eventualy kickbaned a few people(including myself) – Radz
AusNS had some great events like the AusNS Duel and Last Man Standing, and who didn’t enjoy making MCGOO rage?
9. AusNS Meets
From the first initial LAN-Cafe meets in Sydney’s i* and the Brisbane Bunker to the all out barbeques in Sydney and Melbourne, the real life meets of AusNS was testament to its strong community. A chance to meet the names so often seen on the forums, IRC, or even ingame it gave a face to the members of AusNS. The chance to share a beer and a steak with someone from the Internet is a rarety for online communities, only tempered by the deep disturbance of being molsted by Dral. The real-life meets gave a tacticle and personal feel to the AusNS community not often seen in videogames.
These meets, combined with so many other community driven events over the AusNS lifespan, have clearly helped with this sudden resurgance in Australia Natural Selection scene with the release of NS2 on the horizion. Special thanks should go out to Aftershock, who I believe is yet to return to AusNS2’s shores, for hosting the Sydney kekeq’s in his home.
8. Reptile’s Amphibious Rage
dzR killing Rep’s fade as skulk in a match was pretty memorable and lol worthy. – Abe
When dzR tk’d my fade in a finals match against s5
raged fairly hard =[[ – 888`Rep
Reptile raging? Unheard of!
7. The Infamous Fade Blast – Who can forget this hilarious mishap? Thanks for the link Haymo.
6. AusNS Idol. We had several entries for both of the AusNS Idols, this was a great event and and plenty of people got involved. Check out season’s 1 and 2 courtesy of cerv here and here.
5. sE Call Out Thread
That was hilarious and obviously memorable considering everyone still talks about it. – The Flying Fish
One of the most entertaining hacker realisations we have ever seen. From sE’s steadfast denial, to the plethora of images and jokes that followed. The 7.1 meme is a staple of the AusNS community. Thanks The Flying Fish.
4. Cervantes’ ‘Record Breaker’ - After the amazing reveal that AusNS’ own Palisade played NS for a staggering 12 hours straight, cerv took it upon himself to break that record in this hilarious lampoon. Thanks for the link CaM.
3. CC Vs. TSA
The infamous topo rush on ns_veil from the legendary ‘Crushing Commanders’. Richie’s vid after it was awesome – Mr Led
The NS community has been known for helping new and emerging clans get a foothold in the ravenous pit of despair that is the clan scene. But when two Farm teams, CC and TSA met in a colossal match up live on HLTV, the result was nothing short of amazing. The resulting chaos was immortalised on film.
2. Double Fake Relo
XP fake relocation to genesis vs Everlast on NS_Nothing with a shitloads of specs including flayra – Elb
One of my personal favourites, the XP fake relo vs everlast sold me on the NS clan scene. Displaying quick thinking, amazing luck and most of all the stoic unnerved commanding that only Elb could deliver. The resulting XP upset victory sticks out as one of the greatest NS matches in history.
1. The MCGOO photo shop thread – Quite possibly the longest running and most celebrated artistic collaborations on AusNS ever. The MCGOO photo shop thread delivered time and time again, from the simple and inane to the complex and far fetched, MCGOO’s face was photo shopped into countless images. There was no image safe from his smirk. Often imitated, never replicated, the MCGOO photo shop thread is something I am sure MCGOO would rather forget.
